CENTENTARIANS FUNCTION AT GOVERNMENT HOUSE

The Lions Club of Sydney organises a function at Government House each year to celebrate Centenarians.  We invite  people aged 100 and over to attend this special event.

The function is hosted by the Governor of New South Wales.

Centenarians are each accompanied by a friend or family member.  These very successful events have been conducted annually for many years.

LIONS YOUTH OF THE YEAR (YOTY)

The Lions Youth of the Year initiative was established in 1964 by the late Jamie Jamieson of the City of Brisbane Lions Club.

The Lions Youth of the Year  has now grown into an international success and we are proud to see it doing well on a local level.

YOTY aims to select an outstanding young Australian to be an ambassador and travel overseas under the auspices of Lions Club International.  Through YOTY the Lions seek to assist secondary school students in developing leadership qualities as they prepare for higher education and employment.

The Lions Club of Sydney Inc (Host)  is especially pleased to participate in YOTY on a regular basis. Each year we invite students from 4 to 6 schools within the CBD area to compete in our local division.  The student judged to be the best candidate from our club then participates in the next level of the Region final.

PARTICIPATION IN NATIONAL TREE DAY EVENT AND FREE TREE GIVEAWAY EVENT CONDUCTED BY THE CITY OF SYDNEY

For a number of years we have been invited by the City of Sydney to provide a barbecue at these two events.  This is not only a great way for us to participate in community minded events in the CBD area but also a way in which we are able to raise funds as the City of Sydney makes a donation to us in respect of our facilities and time.
